Reach out to local community groups and make yourself aware of the events going on in your area. This problem must be solved one step at a time, and it takes all of us to speak up for our own communities.
Attend Local Council Meetings
Simply showing up makes an impact, as it suggests that you care about what is going on. Local leaders are more likely to discuss with you the situation and hear what you have to say if you just show up and hear what is being discussed.
Discuss with Professionals and Organizations
There are organizations that have probably been already working on protecting our environment against new developments. Involve yourself with them as they will provide information that can allow you to understand the situation more deeply. Then, you will be able to make a stronger impact toward protecting your community’s environment and habitat.
Spread Awareness to Community Members
Local council meetings can be held in obscurity, where the general population is not even aware of the events going on. In my hometown, West Windsor, many rulings and zoning ordinances are passed without most of the population being aware. Tell your friends and family about what is going on and spread the word. It may be surprising how much people can learn about a seemingly apparent issue.
